We are a small in-house production team consisting of myself (managing editor), my designer and the director of communications. We're looking into creating a digital edition of our magazine. I was wondering who out there with a production team this size has done so, what the costs are, which vendor you're using, additional time this takes, etc. Any and all info would be helpful!

My association currently outsources all our graphic design projects to a freelance graphic designer (our monthly magazine, a quarterly ad booklet, conference program, etc.). With the amount of money we pay the designer, my executive director is wondering if it's time to hire a graphic designer as part of the association staff.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the advantages/disadvantages of either outsourcing or hiring an in-house designer?

Thanks!

How much time do you think should be budgeted to develop a 1,500 to 2,000 word feature story? This would include some online research and interviews to develop a meaningful angle enriched with facts, enhanced with member and/or other expert perspective, and including supplemental info when possible (links to related articles, online videos, etc.). Then, of course, write it up. 10 hours? 15 hours? Your thoughts will be appreciated. Thank you.

We're looking for associations who are considering, attempting or have rolled out a mobile strategy. The discussions are informal, typically do not involve presentations and often involve good dialogue with those attending. You also get a nice lunch.
